CO2 - ΝΕΟΝ - Inergen (IG541)
In cooperation with international construction companies, we provide the study, supply, installation of fire extinguishing systems with gases such as CO2, Inergen (IG) & FM200. We also undertake the maintenance, retreading & hydraulic testing of the extinguishing systems’ cylinders.
1. About CO2 as extinguishing agent
Due to its characteristics, Carbon Dioxide (CO2) has been one of the most reliable solutions in firefighting for over 80 years. Not only is it more economical than other solutions for extinguishing all types of fires, but at the same time it does not cause damage and does not require cleaning of the application area.
By flooding the application area with carbon dioxide (CO2), the oxygen concentration is reduced, resulting in the immediate extinguishing of the fire.
However, there are several disadvantages of these systems, such as:
Requires several bottles that occupy valuable space
Care should be taken if placed in areas with sensitive logistical electrical/electronic equipment such as Data Room, as it has been accused of causing hard disks to be erased due to the ultrasonic click during activation.
Slow extinguishing time. The time to fire extinction can be from 2 minutes to 10 minutes. During this time, the fire continues to destroy causing further damage to the equipment, since the fire is not extinguished immediately and until the extinguishing of the equipment is completed.
Because the oxygen concentration in the space is reduced to extinguish the fire, special attention is required if there are people present in the space, because it can cause suffocation. Therefore, its use in places where there are people and animals is contraindicated.
In several cases it is necessary to install a ventilation system to return the space to the permissible oxygen limits.
Some examples of applications:
- Electrical and electrical installations
- Electrical Substations
- Car ovens
- Flammable Liquids Warehouses
2. About NEON (inert gases) as an extinguishing agent
Inert gases are one of the most widely used Fire Protection products on the market.
Its extinguishing principle is based on reducing the oxygen concentration of the critical area that we want to protect.
Its components are found naturally in the environment
Their effectiveness is based on the displacement of oxygen from the risk to be protected, eliminating one of the basic elements of the fire tetrahedron.
They require relatively high concentrations, therefore reducing the amount of oxygen to levels where combustion is not sustained.
It is especially recommended for rooms with technological, electrical and electronic risks, since it is a clean agent which leaves no residue.
The extinguishing system is integrated by storage systems, pipe network and discharge diffusers.
Advantages of the inert gas system
- Clean extinguishing: leaves no residue after discharge
- Not damage the equipment
- Not destroy the ozone layer
- Not affect the Global Warming Potential
- Not pollute
- Suitable for occupied areas
- Doesn’t reduce visibility
- They are not conductors of electricity
- Suitable for class A, B and C fires

3. About Inergen (IG541) as extinguishing agent
HFC 227ea FM-200® is a clean, colorless extinguishing agent (inert gas) that is electrically non-conductive and is considered safe enough for extinguishing in places where people may be present. The extinguishing agent acts mainly through its heat-absorbing property. It leaves no residue and minimizes equipment shutdown after a fire, thus making the HFC 227ea FM-200® extinguishing system a reliable and acceptable material around the world (more than 100,000 facilities in more than 70 countries).
But it must be borne in mind that according to recent environmental decisions, the gas will now be replaced by the more modern Novec, while an environmental tax per kg will be imposed on users of the FM-200 extinguishing agent.
Some examples of applications:
- Telecommunications equipment installations
- Computer rooms
- Control rooms
- Museums
- Pharmaceutical Industries
